Weight Loss and Fitness: Six Steps to Start You on Your Weight Loss Program
Here are six great steps you can use to get started in your own weight loss and fitness management program.
1 Determine exactly what it is that has been keeping you from beginning a program to lose weight:
“I’ve tried before… and I can’t lose anything”, “I always lose a couple of pounds, only to gain it back and then some”, “I’ll begin my diet next week” – - these are common excuses used by everyone… make conscious efforts to avoid them. Recognize that everyone has some level of the fear of failure.
2 Create a commitment for yourself:
Buy a new pair sneakers for exercising. You will have incentive to start, even if in your mind it is merely to justify buying the shoes.
Write everything out on paper. This can include anything from your reasons for wanting to lose weight to what you are going to eat, or what time of day you plan to exercise.
3 Identify where your at now:
Does your lifestyle need readjustment to accommodate an exercise routine?
What are your eating habits, work schedule, social routine, etc.?
4 Set goals, make sure they are realistically attainable:
Don’t try to lose all the weight in one week, make your goals incremental… each mini goal achieved will be a confidence boost and will experience a snowball effect as you surpass each one.
5 Reward your accomplishments:
As you realize each goal, or attain recognizable progress, treat yourself.
6 Seek support, there is strength in numbers:
Supportive family members, friends, and co-workers can be a huge benefit.
Research libraries, on line, and magazines for diet tips – there is a wealth of available information to help you with your nutrition and exercise curriculum.
Fill in this template with your own relevant information and post it where you will see it every day!
You’ll get a sense of the overall picture, and the realization that it really is easy to begin a weight loss and fitness program.
